Should I thank the introducer?
It’s your turn to speak. The introducer just gave you a warm and flattering introduction. Should you thank the introducer for that introduction?
• It detracts from your opening
• It’s false praise and might smell like a mutual admiration picnic
• You probably provided that introduction
This isn’t the Oscars so don’t start your speech with a plethora of insincere thank you’s. Don’t do your impression of Sally Field with ‘You like me. You really like me’.
Instead, start your presentation. That’s why the audience is there. That’s what they expect. Get started and avoid the false platitudes.
You can always thank the introducer for their delivery in private later. He/she will appreciate this a lot more.
